Description
First Light is a work rooted in daily devotion to the Sun. Each morning, Conrad steps outside to write as the horizon breaks open. Observing the silence of birds and their sudden eruption of song, these poems are born from threshold moments. Darkness dissolves, shapes blur and merge, and the world leans into the luminous. Extending beyond personal dawn, through networks of public webcams, the work reaches toward a planetary scale. Ignition. Sunlight activates cells in human, animal, and plant alike. But they’re not simply meditations on beauty. Tender and ferocious in turns, they move through grief, friendship, the AIDS crisis, the body as both instrument and wound, finding in their ritual, not escape but, the courage to keep looking. These are creaturely poems of radical attention, written at the edge of the discernible.
